Lunar dates

Lunar dates are called Tithis Tithis are divided in to 5 groups . Pratipada Shasthi & Ekadashi are called Nanda. Dwitiya Saptami & Dwadasi are called Bhadra .Tritiya Ashtami & Trayodasi are called Jaya. Chaturthi Nawami & Chaturdasi are Rikta Tithis.Panchami Dasami Poornima or Amavasya are called Poorna Tithis.

On Nanda Tithis Men or mwomen may wear new dresses and new ornaments. They may have sumptuous feasts and drinks. These are the suitable Tithis for " eat, drink and make merry" In short they are Merry Making Tihis.

Bhadra Tithis are recommended for assuming Power oathtaking cereminies, taking charge of high posts, for arranging grand feasts , Swasti-Vachana Mangalika Krityas etc.

Jaya Tithis were held to be apporopriate for organising military operations , Manufacture of weapons etc.They were held suitable for purchase and sale of goods and comodities by traders .

The sages were of the view that no important work , be it of durable or undurable nature , Should be performed on Rikta Tithis
If , however , a Rikta tithis falls on a saturday , it becomes quite ab auspicious Tithis for commencing an important work.

Poorna Tithis were held to be auspicious for construction of bridges, buildings, apartments treasury house and also for manufacture of vehicles carriages etc.
